lightbulb Free Tracking (no session)

Even without an active session, your movement is captured in the background and added to your daily statistics. That way you never lose kilometers, even if you forget to start a session!

gps_off GPS Standstill Filter

When you're stationary (traffic light, traffic jam, parking lot), StreetRacer automatically filters out GPS jitter:

  • check_circle Automatic: At speeds under 3 km/h no trail points and no distance are recorded
  • check_circle No zigzag: Prevents false kilometers from GPS drift while stationary
  • check_circle Instantly active: As soon as you're moving again, recording resumes seamlessly

smartphone Background Tracking

StreetRacer can also track in the background:

  • check_circle During an active session: Tracking continues even while you use other apps — kilometers and speed are captured correctly
  • check_circle Seamless return: When you reopen the app, the data collected in the background is immediately shown in the session HUD
  • check_circle iOS: Blue GPS icon in the status bar during active sessions
  • check_circle Android: Persistent "StreetRacer Session active" notification while recording
  • check_circle Without a session: No background tracking — saves battery and avoids unnecessary GPS access
  • check_circle Offline: Data is stored locally and synced once you have an internet connection

Games

StreetRacer offers two GPS-based multiplayer games where you can compete with other drivers in real time. Games are a VIP feature and cost 50 credits to enter — in return, a prize pool awaits the winners.

pets Fox Hunt

One player is the fox, everyone else are the hunters.

  • check_circle 3–10 players: One fox, everyone else hunts
  • check_circle 15 km play area: The fox moves freely within the radius
  • check_circle Head start: The fox gets a time head start before the hunt begins
  • check_circle Catching: Two hunters must be within 15m at the same time to catch the fox
  • check_circle Time limit: 30 minutes — if the fox survives that long, they win
  • check_circle Prize pool: 90% to the winner, 10% to second place

shield Last Man Standing

Battle royale with cars — the play zone shrinks, the last one standing wins.

  • check_circle 4–25 players: Every driver for themselves
  • check_circle Shrinking zone: The 20 km play area shrinks by 10% every 3 minutes
  • check_circle Elimination: Anyone who stays within 50m of another driver for 10 seconds eliminates them
  • check_circle Prize pool: 75% to the winner, 25% to second place

play_arrow Start a Game

  1. Create lobby: Choose the game mode and create a lobby.
  2. Invite friends: Share the lobby code or invite friends directly.
  3. Wait: Once enough players are in, the creator can start the game.
  4. Play: All positions are shown on the map in real time.

Games are a VIP feature. Each participant pays 50 credits to enter, and the prize pool is distributed to the winners automatically. Follow the rules of the road — the games are designed so that speed doesn't matter, only position and strategy do.

OBD-II Diagnostics

Connect a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter (e.g. ELM327 or an STN chip such as the Vlinker BM+) to your vehicle and read diagnostic data directly in the app.

bluetooth Connect Adapter

  1. OBD adapter: Plug an ELM327-compatible Bluetooth OBD-II adapter into the OBD port of your vehicle (usually under the steering wheel).
  2. Ignition on: Turn on the ignition (the engine doesn't have to be running).
  3. In the app: Go to Settings → OBD-II Diagnostics or open the OBD screen.
  4. Scan: Tap "Search adapter" — the app scans for Bluetooth devices.
  5. Connect: Pick your adapter from the list. The connection is established automatically.

speed Real-Time Data

After connecting you can read the following values in real time:

  • check_circle Speed: More precise speed straight from the ECU (instead of GPS)
  • check_circle Engine RPM: Animated RPM bar with color change (green/yellow/red)
  • check_circle Instant fuel consumption: Current fuel consumption in L/h
  • check_circle Fuel level: Remaining quantity with color warning (red below 15%)
  • check_circle Coolant temperature: Engine temperature in °C
  • check_circle Throttle position: Pedal position as a percentage
  • check_circle Outside temperature: Ambient temperature

error Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)

  • check_circle Read: View all stored fault codes with plain-text descriptions from the built-in DTC database
  • check_circle Clear: Reset fault codes and the check-engine light
  • check_circle PID database: Comprehensive database with over 200 standard PIDs
  • check_circle UDS Deep Scan: Automatically scans all ECUs via the UDS protocol
  • check_circle BMW D-CAN: Special support for BMW E-Series (E46, E60, E87, E90) via the D-CAN protocol
warning Note

Clearing fault codes also resets the check-engine light. If a real problem is present, the fault code will be set again after a short drive. If warnings persist, please have your vehicle inspected at a workshop.

speed

Speed Limit Detection

StreetRacer automatically detects the speed limit of the road you're driving on. The app uses a self-hosted OSRM server that maps your GPS position to the correct road (map matching) and looks up the stored speed limit from the OpenStreetMap database.

info How it Works

  • check_circle OSRM map matching: Your GPS position is mapped to the exact road, even when the GPS signal is slightly inaccurate
  • check_circle Speed limit server: A dedicated server provides speed limits for road segments from the OpenStreetMap database
  • check_circle HUD display: The current speed limit appears next to the speed display in the bottom left
  • check_circle Visual warning: When you exceed the limit the color of the speed display changes
info Note

The speed limit data comes from OpenStreetMap and may not always be complete. On some roads no limit is recorded. Always rely also on the limits posted on site.

tune

Driving Mode & Network

StreetRacer dynamically adjusts its network load to avoid overloading the server while still providing the best possible real-time experience.

directions_car Normal Mode

The default driving mode optimizes update intervals based on how close friends are and whether someone is following you. Friends nearby (<2km) are updated more frequently than distant drivers.

flag Racing Mode (VIP)

In Racing Mode everything is set to maximum GPS precision and fastest updates. Position updates every 1.5 seconds, broadcast every second. Ideal for the race track or acceleration measurements. Only available with a VIP subscription.

network_check Network Load Indicator

The small indicator on the map shows the app's current network usage:

  • check_circle Green: Healthy (<30 requests/minute)
  • check_circle Blue: Moderate (30–100 requests/minute)
  • check_circle Red: Overloaded (>100 requests/minute) — friend updates are reduced automatically

auto_fix_high Auto-Throttle

Under high network load the app automatically throttles less important requests (e.g. distant drivers) to keep the connection stable for nearby friends and your own uploads. Tap the network indicator for details.

Breakdown Reports & Community Help

Broken down on the road? Report it directly from the app and describe what's going on. Community members nearby see your position on the map, read your description and can help out spontaneously — whether with a spare tire, some fuel or jumper cables.

report Report a Breakdown

  1. Tap your own marker: Tap your own car icon on the map.
  2. Choose "Report Breakdown": Pick the option from the context menu.
  3. Choose status: "Need help" or "Help is on the way".
  4. Describe the problem: Type what happened in the text field (e.g. "Rear left flat tire", "Out of fuel", "Dead battery"). That way other drivers can see whether they can help.
  5. Visibility: Choose whether only friends or everyone in the community can see the report.
  6. Send: The breakdown report is created at your current position.

notifications_active What Happens After Reporting?

  • check_circle Push notification: All your friends immediately receive a notification with your status and message
  • check_circle Map marker: Your position appears as a breakdown marker on the map — visible to friends or everyone, depending on your choice
  • check_circle Problem description visible: Other drivers see your description and can judge whether they can help
  • check_circle Cancel manually: Once the problem is resolved you simply remove the report
favorite Community spirit

These days hardly anyone stops when a driver is stranded on the side of the road. Breakdown reports change that: the community sees that someone needs help, what the problem is, and how far away they are. Maybe someone happens to have the right tire on hand or a fuel can — and takes a small detour to help.

timer

0-100 km/h Acceleration

Measure your acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h via GPS. The measurement starts automatically and compares your result with your personal best and the community.

play_arrow How it Works

  1. Open overlay: Tap your own car icon on the map and choose "0-100 km/h".
  2. Get ready: The overlay shows a pulsing "Ready" status. Stand still or drive under 3 km/h.
  3. Automatic start: As soon as you accelerate above 3 km/h, the timer starts automatically.
  4. Result: The timer stops at 100 km/h. Your time is compared with your best.

info Details

  • check_circle Auto-start: Timer starts above 3 km/h (avoids GPS drift)
  • check_circle Auto-stop: Timer stops at 100 km/h
  • check_circle Abort detection: 3 consecutive readings under 1 km/h reset the timer
  • check_circle Best time: Your fastest time is saved and shown in statistics
  • check_circle Leaderboard: Dedicated ranking category — sorted ascending (fastest time on top)
lightbulb Tip

For the most accurate measurement: start from a complete standstill on a straight road with good GPS reception. You'll find your best time in the statistics and on the friend profile.
